Here at Slipmat, I don’t just make accessories for your turntables; I’m obsessed with what goes on them. While the laser cutter is humming away in the background working on orders, my shop speakers are always busy.
This month, one album has been on constant rotation: the latest release from Warrington-Runcorn New Town Development Plan.
There’s a real local connection to this one for me, too. Gordon, the man behind the music, is based just a couple of miles from where I am. It feels especially right to have his sounds filling the workshop, capturing that specific Northern mood – a mix of nostalgia and driving synth lines that sounds incredible on wax.
The absolute standout for me is the final track, “The People Matter.”
It clocks up just short of 19 minutes, taking up a huge portion of the playback. In a world of streaming and skipped tracks, there is something deeply satisfying about committing to a piece of music that long. You have to drop the needle, sit back, and let it take you on the full journey.
It’s a massive, evolving soundscape that demands attention from the first minute to the nineteenth.
If you’re looking for a record to test your setup’s dynamic range – or just want to support some incredible local talent—I highly recommend tracking this one down.
